I receive a fair few joke messages (e.g. "You're a big guy" or "Have a waffle! (^_^)>#"). I either don't respond to them or respond in a joking way. In your case, I felt that the question was a joke. I thought that there was no way someone would ask me this in a sincere way, and thus I responded in a way I thought was appropriate.

Well I guess I was wrong.
