When I approved this I initially considered flagging it as furry, since the small character is a naga/lamia. It isn't a furry in the sense that it literally has no fur, but scales instead. Yet it sort of is a furry if you consider furries to be non-human or hybrid people/creatures, like if the furry label encompasses scalies and other stuff. I don't consider myself a furry so I'm not an expert in the field, but I have a lot of furry friends and spend a lot of time in the community, so if someone thinks they know better please chime in :3
Well, not surprisingly, someone went ahead and flagged this as furry, anyway, heh. However, I am contesting that decision and have thus unflagged it as furry for now. Modding ain't easy, and it's sometimes tricky for us mods to sort certain things or decide where to draw a line. We have to pay attention to rules, precedence, and consistency. With that in mind, I'll refer to the Moderation Guide which states "Tag an image 'furry' (and flag it as furry) if it has more animal characteristics than human." Based on that, I'd say in general a hybrid like this naga is 50/50, therefore isn't furry since it doesn't have more animal characteristics than human.
Lastly, I'll refer to Karbo images in general. Tons of Karbo images are on this site, many with non-human creatures like NAGAS that are not tagged/flagged as furry. If we don't want to tag all the Karbo nagas as furry, then we shouldn't tag this naga by madamemaeve as such either.
In closing, this issue makes me think of some of those furry charts that float around on the internet, like showing the furry spectrum. Where do you draw the line between cute neko catgirl and full blown furry? Also remember that if an artist has their work flagged as furry, it will be basically "hidden" from most people and that artist will receive less views and recognition for their hard work. I still support tagging the right materials as furry and keeping the system working, as not everyone wants to see furry stuff and I understand that.
