It's weird to me how mods have said that there's no knowing what order stuff pops up in the queue and that approval is essentially random, when things posted only a day or two ago shoot through the approval process and appear almost immediately ahead of older posts waiting for approval with stunning regularity.

Classic Doc. Geared up and ready to start a war with half story in his head. Let me preface this with an apology and an explanation. First and foremost, I still didn't mean to pick deliberately at anyone specific and especially not Mark. I think it's safe to say that he's probably the main reason this site doesn't arse over and collapse into the dirt. I posted last night when I was tired and had a bunch of other minor shit piling up; this was the ridiculous straw that broke the camel's back. Ultimately it could have been solved with a PM in the right place, so for deliberately stirring up shit, I sincerely apologise. Things were disappearing without warning. With reference to earlier comments, too, this isn't the first and only time I'd seen it happen and not just concerning my own comments, so without knowing Mark was trying to save his busted hand a bit of trouble I was free to conjure all manner of conspiracy about what was going on behind the scenes. (Seriously, though, Mark. What is it with people and their hands lately? I know three people - you make four - who have seriously injured a finger or hand in the last two days. What's everybody suddenly got against their digits? I smell an M. Night Shyamalan movie in the works. Fingers crossed for you, chief... no joke intended.) That being said, after deliberating on whether to PM all this to Mark first or to post it, I made the choice to post it publicly because I have a twisted sense that it'll actually result in a net positive. When Mark mentions my tendency to throw gas on the fire? I also like to throw out the baby with the bath water, smash the fly with the sledgehammer and other metaphors for going in full throttle, usually at the expense of the moment. This is, I think, a discussion that ultimately needs to be happening somewhere. It's probably one that'd work far better on a forum or similar, but we do what we can with what we've got. Which brings me to Mark's point about inactive mods. That's exactly what I meant about the likes of those who really shouldn't be on that list. There's names I see cropping up regularly going 'Bumped!' or 'Fixed tags!' and props to them. As I said already, I've done volunteer positions online before and it's a thankless, grinding job against what seems like the tidal wave of inhumanity that people can drum up against an unseen force they believe is set against them. But if it feels as though you're dragging along dead weight into that task, too, it might be time to tap the glass, see who wakes up and flush the goldfish that aren't swimming, y'know? I think WTK hits the nail on the head with a couple of points. The 'better user interface' may be a pie in the sky, though - there's limitations to how far you can push a booru setup - but it may be worth spitballing to see what could be included. Tag blacklist rather than filters has been on a few people's mutant wishlists for a while (mine included) so, without wanting to sound petty, I am genuinely curious about what it would take to implement something like that. Coding costs money and Giantessbooru is free to use. There's a weird overlap here! Has a donation button been considered? I know I've definitely gotten more than a cup of coffee's worth of entertainment out of this place over the almost five years I've been signed up - usually from the comments section, but I digress... Finally, that code of conduct. It wasn't until I wanted to scream and shout and throw a tantrum that I realised there is nothing official in place to stop me calling, say, iswear a 'bitch-ass jive punk' if I wanted to. Obviously it's not a screaming priority that needs to be put into place immediately, but anywhere there's a bunch of people getting together with words on the internet I think there's a strong case for a visible, accessible list of clear and easily interpreted rules to refer to when you want to grab someone and toss them into the volcano. tl;dr whoops, but also not whoops for different reasons.

There's no code of conduct that I can find on Giantessbooru. I checked, then I double-checked to make sure I wasn't missing something. I can't find any suggestion that there's a set of rules or code of conduct that we're required to agree to in order to comment on this site, unless it's under the segment required to gain entry to this 'adult website' in which case it's been so long since I've seen it and there is interesting commentary available on the usefulness of EULAs as a means of ensuring a user's behavior; if you own and operate an Apple product, for example, did you know that you are legally bound from using any part of its code in a device capable of detonating a nuclear weapon? Fascinating stuff. So, as far as I can tell, there's no official minimum standard of behavior for the users of this site. Naturally, there's the generally agreed-upon rule of 'don't be a dick,' which has been enforced in the past with threads being locked, PMs sent to the relevant people involved and the odd banning here and there as a last resort. I'm surprised it's come to that point, really, but in the main it seems as though banning has been a tactic reserved for genuinely disruptive users. I don't have anything in particular against this. It's a system which is largely fair and transparent. When spurious, ridiculous or even outright grotesque comments are left in the public eye and people are able to see what comes of that behavior they serve as ample warning and a yardstick by which to point out what is and is not acceptable in this space. This seems reasonable to me. So, again. A quick glance around the screen to double-check whether or not there's a code of conduct, set of rules or behavioral guidelines that I'm simply missing? Still not seeing it. Deleting an image and the comments associated with it in anything other than the most extreme examples of bigotry, incitement to hatred or violence is stupid. Coupled with the fact that this is done without tagging any of the users involved in that thread with a PM to either A.) alert them that this action is unacceptable and they face censure if they continue or B.) tell them what they had written was unacceptable and removed as a matter of course, that then makes it a dick move. I understand full well the responsibilities of a volunteer position. I've been there myself. I even very briefly considered applying for one of the moderator positions here back in the day in order to help with the backlog, if you can believe that. I think the right choice was in backing down, and god forbid anyone had actually approved that application! You aren't being paid for your effort in anything other than the satisfaction of assisting a community - I use the term remarkably loosely - and knowing that you're helping out a broader group of like minds and similar interests. I get it. It's hard, really. I don't mean to belittle the efforts of any of the mods here, because I do genuinely appreciate the fact that this is an unpaid position which people spend their personal time on. That being said, there are a few people on the moderator list that (just like me) really shouldn't be there. The people that delete pictures and threads and comments to keep everything fluffy and friendly and safe and cuddly on a website where we regularly beat off to photoshopped images of women crushing thousands; what you're doing in that case is stupid. There are times that comment chains go too far, or the joke stops being funny, or someone just needs to take their finger off the goddamn shift key... but deleting them for no reason other than maintaining some farcical idea of this as a sanctuary from 'meanies' is a fucking joke. Particularly because those rambling, insane commentaries provide some of my best material to work with. I'm going to drop this here and I'm going to wait and see what happens. I hope that it generates some kind of discussion about either a code of conduct, transparency on the part of the moderator team (and again guys, not meaning to pick on anyone specific except whoever has a beef against fun) or just some way to open these topics somewhere more appropriate than a random image. I quite genuinely don't want to rock the boat for the sake of stirring up shit, but this silent policing is ridiculous. tl;dr if you're going to delete comments, PM a user to tell them why. If this gets deleted, just ban me, because I will take that as an incentive to continue making noise about this behavior.
